Enormous effort and sincerity go into the preparation and presentation of this most cosmopolitan festival. This only makes it the greatest of all community festivals not only in India, but the world over. Our Work-in-Progress is a glimpse of that prelim effort and activity.

- Some idols are made and readied in Pandals – temporary edifices like a temple, made to house the idol.
- The world famous location for Idol making – Kumartuli in north Kolkata. The lanes become narrower with water-proof covers to save from frequent rains the city is experiencing in September-October 2013
- Steps of Idol making – After mud, application of primer and paints. Now Lead-free paints are being encouraged to use so that no pollution on immersion in ponds & rivers. Rest of the materials are recyclable.

- Amidst all the business, some have finished work and have time to relax!
- Ornaments of varieties are separately prepared. It looks gorgeous but costs less
- Ornaments for the idols and simple decorative pieces are ready to go with the idols
